Alcohol is a legal drug that, according to statistics, 8 out of 10 people use regularly. Also, in most cases, a person does not consider themselves sick or addicted, even if they drink alcohol every day. About 20% of active people drink alcohol at least 3 times a week, another 50% - once a week, and only 20% drink less than 2-3 times a month. But even using it a couple of times a month, a person acquires both psychological and physiological addiction. In this article, we will talk about how to stop drinking alcohol on your own, why you should do it, and how not to break down again.
Introduction
Everyone knows that alcohol is an addictive drug. Also, everyone knows that alcohol is poison in any dose, but they continue to use it.
It is practically impossible to "quit" alcohol on its own after several years of use: a person gets so used to resting with vodka, champagne, beer and wine that he simply cannot imagine life without drinking. Therefore, people only stop drinking if they are truly coded, or their health does not allow them to do so.
Drunkenness leads to the degradation of the population, its extinction, the decrease of general culture and literacy. Therefore, we absolutely advise all people to reconsider their attitude towards alcohol and, if not to abandon it completely, to at least reduce their consumption to once or twice a month.
If there is an alcoholic in a family, life in that family is conflicting and problematic. Often there is not enough money for clothes and food, children and spouses live in constant stress, scandals and quarrels often arise in the family. This pattern of behavior becomes the norm for children and they subsequently repeat it in adulthood.
Can you stop drinking on your own?
If you want to know how to stop drinking forever, there is no universal answer to the question. This process is individual for everyone. Someone simply refuses to drink alcohol, realizing the danger, someone goes beyond their norm and almost dies with an abscess, someone loses their job or the respect of friends, after which they take their mind.
But the main thing is that a person is aware of the existing problem and tries to solve it by any means. Without this, it is impossible to overcome addiction and the craving for alcohol. The patient has to set a goal for himself and go towards it, otherwise nothing will come of it.
Very often the refusal process is associated with a complete replacement of the circle of friends and even residence - it is difficult for a person to give up the habit of sitting in the evening with friends drinking, having a drink withcolleagues at the next company party or celebrate buying new pants with neighbors.
Remember that the psychological craving for alcohol is very strong and it is quite difficult to deal with it alone, without changing your habits.
It is necessary to ensure that the patient does not have free time. Get busy, find a hobby, start hitting the gym or swimming pool to meet new people in a non-drinking environment. A hobby should bring joy, capture, feed with adrenaline - you can easily move alcohol from your life, having received something new and useful.
The main goal is to forget about vodka, beer, wine: you don't need alcohol to enjoy yourself.
Alcohol is an insidious adversary that causes mental addiction.
Why alcohol is harmful
So, you already know how to start fighting. To encourage you, we list the main harm that alcohol does to a person:
- Health deteriorates. Many men who drink a lot die of heart problems at age 35-45. Alcohol poisons the liver and kidneys, the central nervous system, leads to the deformation of blood vessels, affects sexual function and reduces immunity. If a person has been drinking for more than 10 years, the risk of giving birth to healthy offspring tends to zero. He develops heart failure and significantly increases the risk of cancer and tuberculosis.
- Social relationships deteriorate. The family treats an alcoholic extremely negatively, many friends and acquaintances turn away from constantly drinking people, because they behave aggressively, constantly borrow money "until payday". In addition, in a state of alcohol intoxication, there is a huge number of crimes - theft, murder, hooliganism.
- The financial situation is deteriorating.Alcohol is pretty expensive today, plus it needs a snack, so even traditional gatherings cost a pretty penny. A person stops taking care of himself, taking care of his appearance, spends money on alcohol, and not on his family, as a result of which absolutely everyone associated with an alcoholic suffers. Also, these people are often fired for being unreliable and few people like the smell of fumes.
It is dangerous to launch
There is a myth that it is impossible to suddenly stop drinking, as a person may begin to withdraw. This is only true if the patient bingees and drinks for more than 3-5 days. In this case, you can't really stop drinking - you have to take him to the hospital to give him a drip or get him out of this state at home in 2-3 days. If a person uses infrequently and does not binge, they can stop drinking without a problem.
Why can't you get out of the binge abruptly? Since the body is poisoned by alcohol and aldehydes, it works with alcohol, so failure can lead to:
- Additional stress on the heart.
- Increased pressure, excessive load on blood vessels.
- The occurrence of strokes and heart attacks.
- Hallucinations. Due to the effect on the central nervous system, the alcoholic may experience persistent auditory and visual hallucinations.
- Fall into depression, leading to severe mental illness and even suicide.
Therefore, if you have already gotten into the binge, you need to leave gradually and correctly (preferably with a drug). Or read the rules for getting out of this state at home.
How to stop drinking alone
Let's try to figure out how to stop drinking alcohol on your own, without resorting to coding or the help of narcologists. To do this, you must want to deal with your disease, or at least realize that it exists. Allen Carr's book helps someone quit drinking, someone comes to the conclusion that alcohol is poison and does not bring any good. In general, you need to tune in to what you need to go out. Otherwise, you will slide all the way down and die long before the expiration date.
The second step is the development of intolerances. There are many ways to do this, but we recommend that you use traditional home remedies.
These include:
- Strong decoction of St. John's wort. Buy it at the pharmacy, put 4 tablespoons in a saucepan and pour half a liter of strong boiling water. Leave to infuse for about half an hour, then take the product 30-50 grams at a time 2 times a day. After about 10-12 days, you will develop a persistent aversion to all alcohol.
- Buy bearberry leaves from the pharmacy and brew 2 tablespoons in a glass of boiling water (you can also boil the mixture for 5-10 minutes). Take this broth 4-6 times a day.
- Take a kilogram of oats, rinse it well, put it in a saucepan and fill it with water (you can take a liter and a half of water so that the whole grain is covered). Pour about 100 grams of calendula into the mixture, boil the broth for 20-30 minutes, then let it rest for 12 hours in a warm place (you can wrap the pan with a cloth). You need to drink the broth 3 times a day, in a full 200 gram cup.
When you stop drinking, give up 100% alcohol or you will fall again.
Now let's take a look at tinctures that help develop alcohol aversion. Here are the three most common recipes:
- Lovage and bay leaf root is poured into a glass of moonshine or vodka, the tincture is infused for 10-14 days. Then it is filtered and offered to the patient (dose 50-100 grams). He, unable to overcome himself, drinks, after which he begins to vomit violently. Repeated intake will cause dislike for alcohol.
- Mammoth leaves are steamed in a glass of boiling water and infused for 10-14 days in a cool dark place. Then 100 grams of tincture is mixed with 100 grams of vodka and offered to the patient. He drinks, causing violent vomiting. The effect for fixing is repeated once again.
- Centaurea, wormwood and thyme are taken in equal doses, 1 tablespoon each. The mixture is poured with boiling water and infused for 2-3 hours. Then it is filtered and given to the patient, 50 grams 4 times a day.
Tea can also be used - it is great for helping to cope with the drinker's thirst.
Use the following recipes:
- Take 15-20 grams of dried mint, wormwood, yarrow. Fill them with water, adding calamus and juniper berries (about a liter of boiling water). Leave it to infuse, then drink 2 times a day.
- 30-40 grams of wormwood, St. John's wort and yarrow, 20 grams of angelica and caraway seeds, 10 grams of juniper and 30 mint. Mix and grind all these ingredients. Then take a tablespoon of the finished mixture, pour 250 ml of boiling water over it and drink it 2 times a day.
A person who is trying to get away from alcohol is generally advised to drink as much as possible so that the liquid thins the blood and removes any remaining poison. Remember, it is possible to stop drinking alcohol. You may not be successful the first time and a breakdown will follow, but if you are determined to overcome illness and addiction, you will have fewer breakdowns and periods of sobriety, more and more. Squeeze the alcohol out of life, replace it with something interesting and you will succeed!
